Description
This elegant table lamp is fashioned from a French Sèvres style porcelain urn, its rich sky-blue ground
providing a striking backdrop for a finely painted reserve depicting a genre scene of an 18th-century courting
party — two women and a gentleman in period dress gathered in a wooded garden setting, rendered in soft,
detailed brushwork within a gilt-bordered oval cartouche.
The urn’s shoulder and neck are trimmed in gilt bronze, with a fluted, scalloped collar at the neck and a pair
of gilt bronze rope-twist handles flanking the body, adding both ornamental detail and period character. The
piece is raised on a gilt bronze socle above a black and gold-veined marble plinth base, giving the lamp a
formal, grounded presence.
This lamp would make a refined addition to a traditional living room, study, or bedroom, its painted genre
scene and rich blue ground offering warm, decorative color even when unlit.
