Description

Rare Pair of Art Nouveau Royal Dux pair of vases. H 36″

With extensive research, it was determined that this pair was made exclusively for the Paris Exhibition in 1900.

The Exposition Universelle of 1900, better known in English as the 1900 Paris Exposition, was a world fair held in Paris, France, from April to November 1900, to celebrate the achievements of the past century and to accelerate development into the next. It was the sixth of ten major expositions held in the city between 1855 and 1937. It was held at the esplanade of Les Invalides, the Champs Des Mars, the Trocadero, and it was visited by more than fifty million people.

Royal Dux porcelain originated in the Duchcov (Dux) region of Bohemia, now the Czech Republic, with the company established in 1853. It became renowned for its high-quality ceramics, particularly its Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces, often featuring allegorical figures and naturalistic designs. The brand is recognized for its distinctive pink triangle mark, often accompanied by a model number and the “Made in Czechoslovakia” inscription.

This vase exemplifies the Art Nouveau movement’s embrace of organic forms and idealized female figures, drawing inspiration from nature. The detailed sculpting of the tree, foliage, and the graceful depiction of the woman interacting with a flower are hallmarks of this era. Such pieces are highly sought after as decorative art objects, reflecting the aesthetic sensibilities of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
