Description
This pair of ornate table lamps is fashioned from a Capodimonte porcelain urn, its cylindrical body richly
decorated with a continuous hand-painted relief scene of cherubs at play beneath a garland of fruiting
grapevines — a hallmark subject and technique of the Neapolitan relief porcelain tradition, prized for the
labor-intensive hand-modeling of each figure before painting.
The urn is flanked by a pair of dramatic scrolled handles, each terminating in a finely modeled dragon or
griffin head picked out in soft rose and gilt tones, adding sculptural drama above the figural body. The neck
is finished with a further band of relief fruit and foliage, while the base transitions through a fluted
grape-and-leaf collar to a substantial cast gilt bronze foot, richly decorated with scrolling acanthus and shell
motifs.
Fitted with a pleated ivory silk shade, this lamp combines the hand-crafted charm of Capodimonte-style
porcelain with the formal presence of gilt bronze mounting, making it a striking accent for a traditional living
room, study, or bedroom.
