Description
This grand sideboard is an impressive example of French Louis XV dining room furniture, combining a
substantial marble-topped base with an ornate mirrored gallery back. The raised mirror superstructure
features a shaped, gilt bronze-trimmed frame with a central medallion finial, flanked by burl-paneled side
sections, and provides an elegant reflective backdrop for displaying china or decorative objects along the
top.
The generously proportioned base is fitted with a bank of four drawers above four arched cabinet doors, all
trimmed in gilt bronze corner mounts, rope-twist beading, and drawer pulls. The rich mahogany case rests
on a warm rose-veined marble top and is raised on shaped cabriole legs with gilt bronze sabots, echoing the
ornamental French Rococo revival vocabulary throughout.
A true statement piece for a formal dining room, this sideboard offers substantial storage combined with an
elegant display surface and mirrored backdrop, ideal for serving as well as showcasing fine china and
glassware.
