Description
This elegant two-tier side table is a fine example of French Kingwood parquetry furniture, its warm figured
veneer laid in a geometric pattern across the top and lower shelf. Both tiers are edged with a delicate
pierced brass gallery, a refined decorative and functional touch that both frames the surfaces and prevents
small objects from sliding off.
The table is fitted with a single drawer at the apron, its bow-form front trimmed in gilt bronze edging and
fitted with a cast gilt bronze pull. The cabriole legs are dramatically dressed with sculptural gilt bronze
mounts — winged mythological masks at the knee transitioning into finely feathered wing forms along the
leg — terminating in gilt bronze paw feet, a striking and unusual level of figural ornamentation for a piece of
this scale.
With its two-tiered display surface and dramatic gilt bronze figural mounts, this table would make a striking
occasional or lamp table for a formal living room or study, equally suited to display or practical use.
